The initial evaluation session may last up to 1.5 hours. This allows us to review the new client intake form that you have completed. (This form is provided when you schedule an appointment.) The session includes a palpation evaluation followed by a series of techniques conducted in partnership with your horse based on their feedback. Because each session is guided by the response of the horse, the length and process of each session may vary.
Single Session: $75.00
3-session starter package: $195 ($65 per session to be paid up front.)
Maintenance schedule within 8 weeks of previous session: $65.00
Holiday pricing: During certain times of the year, we offer holiday pricing. Keep an eye on our Facebook page for announcements.
A milage fee is charged for travel over 20 miles and can be split among session participants.
There are a few items to consider when scheduling an appointment to make the most of your horse’s session. Please consider scheduling a time that is not during feeding and that allows your horse time off after the session to maximize the benefits.
Bodywork can be performed in a stall, ready area, arena, or another place where your horse is most comfortable and where distractions are minimal. Horses fidget, and some horses like to walk a bit when they release tension so having a space to accommodate a bit of movement is helpful.
Please have your horse brushed, feet cleaned, and their halter and lead rope available.
Many people stay to watch their horse, ask questions about the process, and see how their horse responds. Please avoid petting or feeding your horse during the session.
Most horses show a characteristic behavior before they release tension because they feel the release approaching. The behaviors vary but can include the following: biting or chewing on things, such as the lead rope or a shoe; shifting weight; stomping a foot; swishing their tail or walking forward and backward. Some horses, however, are rather stoic in their responses. Masterson Method® bodywork techniques are multimodal and can have far-reaching effects. For example, working areas of the front end can help release tension on the hind end and vice versa. Through the bodywork, we learn the tension patterns of your horse and work with your horse to help facilitate the release of their tension.
You will be provided a summary of findings so you can share information with your horse’s health care team, and we can track progress and changes through follow up sessions. If interested, you will also be provided homework that consists of recommended techniques for you to work on with your horse between sessions.
Ideally, after the session, you can offer your horse the opportunity to move around so that they can soak in what has been released. Hand walking and turnout are great, but a light, relaxed ride on a loose rein is another good option to help your horse continue to release their tension. If possible, allow them the following day off, but if riding, try to do a light, relaxed ride.
Payment is due at time of the session. Currently, cash or checks are accepted.
